We all remember fondly the days of youth. Boy and Girl Scouts. Birthday parties with cupcakes. Little League. That very first beer. That very first shot of tequila. That very first bottle of tequila. That very first time in jail. That very first broken heart. Oh the memories of yesteryear. How unhealthy we all once were and how far we’ve come.
What if you could take the best of your youth and spend one week on a “luxurious, exotic field trip” acting like a kid again? I’ll never forget my first yoga retreat. I had just started yoga way back in 1995 and went on a retreat with 17 other people to a retreat center and zoo just outside the Florida Everglades. It was one for the ages. I’ve never laughed so hard. There was one time where we were trapped in a van surrounded by monkeys. I’d like to share the video with you. Please disregard the video’s title as I do not condone that language. But notice the laughter. Oh boy was this fun. Watch and then continue reading:

Aren’t you ready to bust loose, laugh til you cry, and let go of your fears? Later this year I’ll be a co-hosting a trip to Sicily and its amazing Arancio vineyards. No they won’t have monkeys doing disgusting things with their d-ng-do-g but there will be lots of noodles and other pastas that we’ll be enjoying day after day.
The surroundings will be as exotic as they come with the azure blue Mediterranean Sea just outside your door and thousands of years of history waiting to be explored. I will be co-hosting the retreat with wine connoisseur Angela Gargano who will lead you on daily tours of wines indigenous to this ancient land. You’ll do my morning yoga practice after which you’ll leave your mat behind and venture into a lunchtime feast you can’t even imagine. Lunch might include Pasta Picchi Pacchi which is bucatini pasta with fresh fennel, cherry tomatoes and garlic. It’s served with toasted bread crumbs (serving pasta with toasted bread crumbs instead of cheese is very typical in Sicily.) As you enjoy lunch, Angela will guide thru the tasting of a Planeta which is a syrah from Sicily. Planeta is a rich, round red from one of Sicily’s most respected and innovative producers. You’ll experience notes of black pepper and spice with lots of jammy blacberry fruit.

Post lunch will leave time for a nap on a hammock with a cool Mediterranean breeze before you are awoken with a wet towel and a spritzer. We will lead you on a tour of the ruins at Selinunte which is an amazing complex of Greek ruins. What makes it even more special is the location on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. This is the kind of stuff you’ll remember when you’re 87 years old and thinking thru your life’s great moments. Life is too short not to visit these great wonders of the world.
Yes the economy is in shambles but must you be sucked into crisis? If there’s one way to hit Europe, it’s on an all-expense included journey with a native Sicilian (Angela) and a fun-loving Italian (me). Get after it! Live well; today. As goes the proverb: “Enjoy yourself. It’s later than you think.”
