BEAUTIFUL MOMENT 10:07pm Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA
This past Saturday, I attended the Dodger-clinching victory over the Chicago Cubs. It was the first Dodger playoff series win in 20 years. This is a photo of Dodger pitcher Kevin Lowe spraying the fans with champagne. If you read my book, Yeah Dave’s Guide to Livin’ the Moment, you’ll read about the event that triggered my fascination with the impact one “moment” can have on a lifetime. I went with my dad to Game 1 of the 1988 World Series when Kirk Gibson hit a dramatic, game-winning home run…widely considered one of the greatest moments in the history of sports. My dad wanted to beat the traffic in the parking lot so we left the game before he hit it.
This past Saturday was the Dodgers first playoff series win since the 1988 World Series. So it was more than just celebration, it was a little redemption for a very big dork out. And yes, I stayed way past the end!!

Beautiful moment: 07-23-08 11:30pm Homer, Alaska
“What is true by lamplight is not always true by sunlight.” –Joseph Joubert
I’d stepped outside at 11:30pm at night. It just finished raining and I was having a hard time getting used to Alaska’s midnight sun. The sky doesn’t go fully dark until well after midnight. And with all the sunlight and rain, the summertime foliage is absolutely breathtaking. It’s as colorful as Hawaii and touches the spirit in a way my spirit hasn’t been touched since seeing a total eclipse of the sun in 1991. The moment captured in this photo is a moment that might just stay with me on my deathbed. I felt utterly relaxed with no desire to check my emails, pet my gerbil Giuseppi, or drink another quadrupple espresso. This is as good as it gets.

Beautiful moment: February 22, 2009 8:20am South Rim Grand Canyon
During my weekend workshop in Flagstaff, AZ, I ventured 90 minutes north to the Grand Canyon. As the acid wore off, I found my shirt, pants, socks, and shoes and headed back to Flagstaff.

Beautiful moment: 2/18/08 Washington DC 2:47pm
Last year I went to my little cousin’s 2 year old birthday. We sang Happy Birthday, blew out the candles on his cupake, and watched him dig in. This photo shows my cousin Eli about to go crazy which ends up leaving a smattering of frosting and sprinkles smushed all over his face. This is what I mean by Livin’ the Moment. To recall the carefree lifestyle of youth, try this exercise. Get a piece of cake, and eat it like it’s the last piece of cake you’ll ever have in your life. No napkin allowed. You might just recall a time when “anxiety” was an adult word, and freedom was a face full of frosting.
