DELICIOUS MOMENT: Gingerbread Yogis

Where and When: Early Sunday morning (4:30 am) in my kitchen.

What about these photos make them special? “This was my first attempt at making gingerbread cookies. I mainly make sculpted cakes (self-taught) but haven’t really made cookies before, with the exception of the store bought cookie dough that’s already made. My husband loves gingerbread cookies and I wanted to make some for him (the footballs and Stewie) and I also wanted something to take over to his sister’s place where we were celebrating Christmas with his family. His sister is a yoga instructor and studio owner and I thought it would be cute to try to make them in yoga poses. They were a hit and I’ve already gotten orders for Gingerbread Yogis from friends!”

How do you live in the moment? “I try not to stress about what may be happening an hour from now, or a day, or year from now. I’m not always successful but I’m getting there! Being true to myself, accepting myself as I am and not taking friends and family for granted. To enjoy every moment with an open mind and an open heart. To bring joy to others; whether it be through my food, art, friendship, service or love. What makes me happiest is making others happy. Life is what you make of it. I choose to make mine wonderful, adventurous and filled with love.”

What about this photo makes it special? ”There is something so intimate about breaking food with someone, like it reinforces the fact that we are family! The pie is breakfast pie – bacon, sausage, cheese and potato in a little crust. Mmmmm.”

How do you live in the moment? “To eat delicious food with my best friends every Saturday.”

There are some people who just make us feel good, comfortable, happy. You can’t always put a finger on why they have that effect.Whether it’s the yoga teacher who just has that magical ability to put you at ease…

…or the elderly man whose dumb jokes make you ponder a simpler time from a past era…

…or the random person who cleans the hall in your building and whose smile could light up a small town.

Trust, follow, be curious about warm, positive, loving emotions. Those with the good vibes tend to have the big messages or the little secrets inherent to unlocking the codes we all ponder.

As Joseph Campbell said, “Life is not about the meaning. It’s about the feeling.”

I want to share one of my favorite spots…

Lula’s Sweet Apothecary in the East Village of NYC featured this flavor…Waffles n Syrup… which is the scoop on the top…and Peanut Butter Fudge on the bottom. Little chunks of waffle and the taste of maple syrup. What?!

And best of all, it’s Vegan. I know vegan ice cream sounds boring, but it leaves you without a dairy hangover.

Put this on your MUST-TRY list next time you visit NYC.

Who: Donna Rose Mulcahy from Atlanta, GA

Where and When: Spring Fling party at work a few years ago. Yes, I wore a trash bag & shower cap in front of my coworkers.

What about this photo makes it special? “I beat 3 men to take the top prize (a phenomenal, jealousy inspiring “good eater” badge)…one of them was trying to make me laugh the entire time in order to gain advantage (I laugh easily). It was an apple pie, and it took a while to even be able to look at them again!”

How do you live in the moment? “Well in this instance, I kept my face down & continued to eat while laughing. So I guess the lesson is to keep your eye on the prize, keep moving and absolutely laugh as much as possible along the way. Joy is the key that keeps me present!”

Delicious Moment of the Day

I’m getting married in a few weeks and trying to slim down for the occasion. It’s so hard. I really like to eat.

So to make it OK, I’m declaring today WORLD INDULGENCE DAY. This means go out and indulge without guilt!

Because who would you rather hang out with…someone with a bumper sticker reading “Peace is a Hard Ass” or someone with a bumper sticker reading “Peace is a hot chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate banana shake and a nice glass of Port and a wet kiss from a puppy that’s not your own!”

I know most of the health freaks out there would single me out as a bad example, but I’m a lot more fun to hang with. That I can promise you!
